Stones Release

Today, July 15 2023, is the official release date for my latest fantasy novel, STONES IN THE SEA. Here are the links for print and ebook at the Arachis Press store:

I’ve posted the cover and blurb before. Go back a few pages! The book may or may not be available at retailers yet. Distribution is what it is and we live with it, but STONES is definitely available from Arachis Press. And remember to check for their discounts on print prices, typically ten or fifteen percent off during weekdays. Those are usually posted at the AP blog.

NOTE: a few months later—the ebooks are no longer for sale. I have decided to give them away and will put up links here and elsewhere, as I get around to it.

Stones in the Sea

My newest fantasy novel (or novel of any sort!) is set for official release by Arachis Press on July 15, 2023, in print and ebook. Here is a look at the cover:

“Stones in the Sea” should be, chronologically, the earliest of all my Annals of Izan novels, the fantasy cycle set in the world of Exura. The events take place some seventy years or so before the beginning of my first Malvern book, “Coast of Spears.” As such, it is, in a sense, a foundational work. It introduces the Eyes of the Wind, the mystical talismans whose story is wound through some of the other novels.

Will there be a sequel? Admittedly, none are planned at the moment, but the stories of both Phraata and of Dick suggest possibilities for one or several. Perhaps you would care to sample some of my other fantasy—or even non-fantasy—work while you wait.

Islanders

We are three weeks out from the official release of my poetry collection, Islanders, on April 21. Available in print pretty much everywhere (ISBN 978-1-937745-87-5), in PDF and EPUB directly from Arachis Press (arachispress.com). Here’s the back cover blurb:

We seek the islands of our dreams, whether upon the sea or along the empty streets of cities. We seek love. We seek our way, our way to far lands, our way to home. Through the pages of ‘Islanders,’ poet Stephen Brooke voyages far and returns, bearing a cargo of dream and poetry.

April 21 is also my birthday, so I can throw a combination book release/birthday party, right? I may release a new collection on that day every year, until I run out of either poems or days.

These Remembered Hills

This Saturday, January 7 2023, marks the official release of my latest novel, “These Remembered Hills.” Ostensibly, this is a mystery novel. Here’s the back cover/advertising blurb:

Yes, he loved these hills, these remembered hills of his youth.

Jim Fry had returned from his four years in the navy, returned to the family farm where his sister had died, broken at the foot of a cliff. An accident. So most believed.

Not her friend, artist Rick Myers. A few days later, Myers is also dead and no one mistakes this for an accident. Through farmland and forest, the cliffs and creeks of the Hocking Hills of southern Ohio, Jim pursues the truth—and the murderers.

The book is available in print everywhere books are sold. ISBN 978-1-937745-85-1. It is also available in print, EPUB, and PDF directly from Arachis Press:

EDIT (some time later!): the EPUB and PDF editions are no longer for sale at the Arachis Press store. We have chosen to make them, and all my ebooks, free downloads at the Arachis Press site (arachispress.com).

I’ve been wanting to write a book about the area in southeastern Ohio where I’d done some of my growing up, the hills and hollows and caves, and this was the time for it. Maybe I’ll write a sequel but right now I’ll be getting back to the fantasy novel WIP. There should be another poetry collection release later this year too.
